Back at the Barn - November 2021

To start, thank you so much for your continued support of our program! We are so excited to welcome all of you back to Spring Branch, after a long year of not seeing each other. Our students, advisors, and officers have been working hard to make this year the best one yet.

Over the summer our officer team attended the Texas FFA State Convention, where the team worked to put Spring Branch on the map. Members Olivia Nugent and Trey Clark competed in speaking events after advancing to the state level. Four-year members Mary Perez, John Perez, and I all received our Lone Star Degree, one of the highest honors a state association can bestow on a member. Finally, we watched our very own Annie Valicek retire after a year of service as a Texas FFA State Officer.

Once we were back in Houston, our officer team began planning and hosting events to welcome new members back to the barn, in person. We hosted an Ice Cream Social to welcome our new advisor, Mr. McManners. Brunch at the Barn occurred in September, an event inviting parents and students to come have breakfast at the barn and learn more about our program. Finally, we just wrapped up our Spring Branch FFA Greenhand Camp.  We had a fun evening of team building events and pizza to introduce our first-year members to our Chapter and the program.

The kickoff for our year has been a great success and now we are looking ahead to our classes, projects, chapter events and our Show and Sale. Animals for the 44th Annual Spring Branch FFA Show and Sale have been selected and some have arrived at the farm. The sweet sounds of the farm are back in Spring Branch. Students are also working hard in their agricultural science classes and preparing to compete on our Leadership Development event teams this fall.

In the midst of our busy days at the barn, it is always good to stop for a moment, take in a sunset and reflect on those who have made this program possible. We are so grateful for the support you have given our program. Your investment does not go unnoticed, but instead sets an example for us to follow. Whether this is your first year with us or you are a longtime supporter, we are so glad you see our potential and we thank you. We are working towards another record-breaking year and we hope you will join us!

See you at the Barn,
Ava Pluchino
Spring Branch FFA President
